I wonder if it is possible to truly see
our world and our lives as God sees them.
When we see evil or feel evil, we want to strike back. We don’t really see redemption and
resurrection of a possible new life.
There is judgment for sin and punishment that comes from God and yet at
the same time there is mercy and grace from our God in the midst of that same
sin. In the words of the Scriptures, over
and over again … God’s people are judged by their turning away to other idols
but He welcomes them when they repent (Jeremiah 4:1). The chance at a new life, begins again.
Jesus welcomes us as sinners … over and
over again. The cross saves us and in
His resurrection, Jesus secures the hope of redemption and the chance at a resurrection into a
new life for all of us. New for today, new
in overcoming a bondage that has long entrapped us, new in the way we see hurts
against us and new in charting a new path that only God’s ways will lead us in and
His Holy will empower us to live. The
incredible and indescribable fact remains … God sees all this potential and all
this victorious, redemptive and resurrection in the midst of our failure, sin
and difficulty. This new life is not to be found in our
strength or efforts; it is in Christ alone.
It can and does come when we look to Him to change our hearts and our
lives. srm
