The lies we sometimes believe.

"See how I love your precepts; preserve my life, Lord, in accordance with your love. All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal” (Psalm 119:159-160 NIV).

What happens when someone lies to you? It is extremely difficult to accept other words from them and it is harder still to allow yourself to trust the person again.  We sometimes are confused as we try to understand how someone could do such a thing to us and they lose our respect for them..

Yet when it comes to the falsehoods of Satan, our world hardly gets angry and they listen to him as he continuously lies over and over again.  He is spewing lies every day in the world and through every medium.  Lies about relationships, lies about selfishness, lies about sin, lies about God and even lies that mock honesty as an important virtue.  From the first moments in the history of human beings, he has been lying to the world.  When he first speaks to Eve, his words are dripping with lying inferences about God’s honesty and His perfect love for Adam and Eve.  Sin enters the world as doubt lingers on the tempting words of the lies he speaks.

Many times, I have listened to people lament their susceptibility to Satan’s tempting lies straining to connect some truth in their minds to counter the specific falsehoods they are struggling with.  All of us struggle to fight temptations even as we battle known lies.  Many other times I have listened to hurting and aching hearts that beset all who fall into various temptations.  First from the consequences of their sin and then from the guilt that sweeps over them like a giant wave.  Sin is always confusing because it is based on lies and it hurts because it always brings pain.

Contrast all of that with the reality of a God that loves us more than we can comprehend.  Realize in an overwhelming sense that we know the only true and living God that shows mercy and forgiveness through our blessed Redeemer even in the face of our failures to trust Him and His Word.  Understand the urges of the Holy Spirit that dwells in all that believe and are born again.  Throw the devil out of every part of your life, turn away from anything he tempts you with, realize his intentions and kick him out of your thoughts the moment he starts with all his devious, rotten and stinking lies by the power of Jesus Christ.

Cling to every word of truth found in the Scriptures.  Step fully into the true love of our Father in heaven and remember that Jesus is not only the way and life but the living truth now and forever.  Rest assured as you trust Him; that everything, absolutely everything that God gives is true and everything that Jesus speaks and the Holy Spirit reveals is true. Why, oh why listen for a second to any thing else?

“Listen to Me! Everything I say is right, for I speak the truth and detest every kind of deception. My advice is wholesome, there is nothing crooked in it (Proverbs 9:6-8 NLT).
