“Be still (quit striving), and know that
I am God; I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10 NIV & KJV).
It is a wonderful thing that our Savior
is with us each day. Greater still is the fact that He has words that can clear
our confused hearts with truth and real hope.
His tender attention and encouraging direction can both help us with any
situation and guide us unto paths that are light and life. We just need to be still and listen.
Still the great difficulty … lies in the
stopping, to be still. We put so much effort
into many areas of our lives with our striving to advance, grasping onto
things, trying to possess, clamoring to compete, trying to understand, hanging
on in the midst of our struggles and tidying up as we move to a great and
glorious finish. We oftentimes are noisy
and boisterous before God as well … determining our courses of action and
agendas, pushing down the pathways of our ways, telling God what we want and
when we want it. To live by faith we
must realize the futility of this striving. We must stop and listen to our God and
His small voice. We must follow His leading by His Word and His Spirit.
The message and hope of faith lies in
the releasing of our heart and life in the relationship with we have with our
Redeemer and God. We must let Him be the
Artist of the masterpiece that will be our legacy. We need to stop striving and
we need to be still. This is how He
becomes our light and life.
"May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and
God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and
good hope, encourage your hearts and
strengthen you in every good deed and word" (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 NIV).
