“The
true light which gives light to every man coming into the world” (Isaiah 49:6
NKJV).
The
world has always had its share of boasters, the ego centered, the richly laden with
property and money, the arrogantly superior and the touted strong and mighty
people who overpower others around them. We often find people with these same character
traits but with new descriptive names around us today.
There
is a tendency for any of us to fall into the trap of overvaluing our wisdom,
strength and material possessions.
Riches can fall away in any given moment by circumstances, economies or
catastrophes. Wisdom can evolve into
arrogance, pride or become so self -absorbing as to become impractical and useless
except unto itself.
Strength
in our physical bodies can be lost to injury or sickness and strength in our
abilities or capacities can be lost in a moment, a political or career change
or circumstantial upheaval beyond our control.
The
strength that is eternally solid and remains comes from God. The wisdom that is
pure, perfect and endures comes from God and His Word and the only riches that
will last are the riches that God gives us.
True glory is in Him and who He is. His creation, redemption and loving
interaction with us brings us light, life, substance and blessing. It is in Him
alone that we can boast because only He is from everlasting to everlasting God
Almighty.
“Thus says the Lord: ‘Let not the wise man glory in
his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man
glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands
and knows Me, That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and
righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,’ says the Lord” (Jeremiah
9:23-24 NKJV).
