“Let everything that breathes praise the
Lord! Praise the Lord!” (Psalm 150:6 RSV)
After Psalm after Psalm had been written
and every effort had been made by the Psalmist to offer words to express all
things in reference to God, comes this ending verse of Doxology. It is the last verse of the Psalms. It stands as a conclusion and final
encompassing thought of expression of all that came before. The book of Psalms holds hundreds of
reflections on the struggles and feelings of all human hearts. Many of the Psalms soar with elation and
delight at the wonder of the Creator of the heavens and the earth, while noting
time after time the intimate knowledge of each of us by the same Living God. Many of the Psalms express gratitude over the
provision, protection and providence of our God over His children. Yet the conclusion all of these writings in
the Psalms comes down to this thought … Everything that has life should praise
the Lord.
What about our lives? When we have dealt with all our feelings,
when we have exhausted all our understandings and when we have spoken all our words
in despair and joy … what can we say?
When everything is done, there is nothing to say but Praise the
Lord. All we can do is give praise to
our Lord. He gave us all of our days and all our days are His. Praise the Lord.
“And yet again, "Praise the LORD,
all you Gentiles. Praise him, all you people of the earth." (Romans 15:11
NLT)
