Ever
wonder why we are to be like God and what happens to our lives and the lives of those around us, when we are like Him? Jesus himself tells us to be like our Father, “Be merciful, even as
your Father is merciful” (Luke 6:36 NIV). God gracefully gives mercy to us and He wants us to give
mercy as we humbly remember the mercy that saves us. God's mercy shines through us, when we are merciful. Many things happen when we are merciful: God is honored, those around us see mercy, our hearts feel compassion and our souls are at peace.
“God
blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy (Matthew 5:7 NLT).
“Your own soul is nourished when you are
kind, but you destroy yourself when you are cruel” (Proverbs 11:17 NLT).
