A past devotion ... brought over to this blog.
At
times we try to memorize lines from books, plays and movies, phrases, words and
many try to memorize Scripture as well. We have
varying reasons for doing this and some people are very good at remembering.
When it comes to Scripture, it not the verses that you know that is important
but if you understand what does God want us to do with the words.
We are to discern the essence of God through the words. He wants us to understand
Him and His purposes and be like Him because He is in us. Ultimately we appeal to the Holy Spirit to
help us sense what God is wanting, to tell us. We are not supposed to just
grasp the words but the grasp the God that ordained the words.
“Be
diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be
ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).
