“Strengthen the weak hands, And make firm
the feeble knees. Say to those who are fearful-hearted, “Be strong, do not
fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance,
With the recompense of God; He will come and
save you.” (Isaiah 35:3-4 NKJV)
As we live out our days, we often
welcome God’s blessings and cringe when His discipline comes along. Whether the
correction comes in judgment, in consequence to sin or by His intervening as our Father to
alter the direction of the paths we have chosen. At times we will choose our thoughts over God thoughts and our ways over the ways of God. We regard ourselves quite highly and disregard our God. When this happens, we suffer because of our self-centered focus. In the midst of these mistaken times of self-assured brashness ... we find the river can become overwhelming, the choices were wrong and the outcomes baffling and disappointing. God’s discipline of either consequence or intervention, feels painful and the confidence in our faith seems quite weak because of our sin. At those moments we often find ourselves, distant from God because we have distanced ourselves from God.
At those moments, if we come in repentance … we find not only God’s mercy and grace but His encouragement to put away fear and to find strength in the steadfastness of His love. We might feel tentative at that point. Yet in coming to Him, we will find the assurance and healing that is found only in His grace. srm
“Therefore, strengthen your feeble
arms and weak knees. Make level paths
for your feet, so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.”
(Hebrews 12:12 NIV)
