“Then
I will sow her for Myself in the earth, And I will have mercy on her who had
not obtained mercy; Then I will say to those who were not My people,‘You are My
people!’ And they shall say, ‘You are my God!’” (Hosea 2:23 NKJV).
We
worship God and praise Him with honor and adoration for all that He does. Still somehow we must acknowledge and come in
humble gratitude as created beings, realizing the infinite attributes of God’s power and
knowledge in His sovereignty to will and to save. David the Psalmist, over and over again beautifully
acknowledges God’s measureless mercy … “For thy mercy is great unto the
heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds. Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens:
let thy glory be above all the earth” (Psalm 57:10-11).
God’s
mercy is available to all. We may struggle with defining who is worthy to
obtain mercy, as we see the sin of others in condemning degrees, but God’s
mercy is infinite in all capacities to save.
At the same time we have a natural minimizing tendency to forget our own
sin. The truth remains, we are stained,
separated and condemned by various idolatries, sensual and prideful sins and we
all need God’s abundant mercy to save and sanctify us. It is the granting of His mercy to save us by
His grace in Jesus Christ which gives us the Living Hope by which we live now
and forever. His mercy is great and beyond our capacity to comprehend. Give thanks from a humble heart for we have
all been given a great gift of a new life.
“Praise
be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has
given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ
from the dead” (1 Peter 1:3 NIV).
